Deepika Padukone on her cameo in ’83’: “I have about five to six scenes”

Deepika Padukone who will be playing Ranveer Singh’s reel wife in the upcoming cricket drama ’83’, shares it was refreshing for both of them to be in an “emotionally lighter film”.

Reported on Mid-day, speaking about her cameo in ’83’ Padukone said, “I have about five to six scenes.” The ‘Chappaak’ (2020) star who filmed her scenes in the UK last year, essays Romi, wife of the cricketing legend Kapil Dev.

Having starred in a few of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s productions – ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ (2013), ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015) and ‘Padmaavat’ (2018), Padukone is happy they are doing something different, “All these three films were costume dramas and emotionally heavy. Also, we ended up dying at the end of all!”…”In that sense, it was relatively emotionally lighter,” added Padukone.

Compared to Singh who had to perfect his cricket technique, the ‘Tamasha’ (2015) actress shared she “just went with the flow.” Adding, “The way we approach our characters are distinct. Our processes are different. It was also novel as we have not done something like this before.”

Speaking about their influence on each other away from the camera, Padukone said, “His personality has rubbed off on me, and mine, on him. I have learnt a lot from him, and he, from me.”

Directed by Kabir Khan, ’83’ tells the story of Dev’s life journey and how he became the captain of India National Cricket team and how his team went on to win the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
