Danish Khan to step down after a decade at Sony Pictures Networks India

After a decade of leadership, Danish Khan, Business Head – Sony LIV and Studio NEXT, has announced that he will step down from his role at Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) at the end of the current financial year, 31st March, to pursue new opportunities.
Khan’s association with SPNI spans over 20 years across two stints. His creative vision and strategic leadership have played a pivotal role in shaping some of the network’s most successful brands.
In his current tenure, which began 10 years ago, Khan initially led Sony Entertainment Television (SET) before taking charge of Studio NEXT and, since 2019, Sony LIV. Under his stewardship, Sony LIV underwent a major relaunch with Sony LIV 2.0 and achieved significant growth—reportedly more than five-fold in topline revenue and four times in monthly active users—while maintaining profitability. The platform introduced acclaimed titles such as Scam, Maharani, Rocket Boys, Freedom at Midnight, Tabbar, and Shark Tank India.
As Business Head for SET, Khan oversaw popular non-fiction properties including ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, ‘Super Dancer’, and ‘Superstar Singer’, alongside fiction series like ‘Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai’, ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’, ‘Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi’, ‘Beyhadh’, and ‘Patiala Babes’.
Khan also established Studio NEXT, which produced successful formats such as ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and ‘Shark Tank India’.
Gaurav Banerjee, MD & CEO, Sony Pictures Networks India: “Danish has been a key part of SPNI’s growth journey over the years, contributing across television, studio and digital businesses. We thank him for his leadership and the strong foundation he leaves behind, and wish him the very best for the future.”
Danish Khan, Business Head – Sony LIV and Studio NEXT: “Sony Pictures Networks India has been an incredibly important part of my professional journey. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some exceptional teams and leaders, and to be part of building businesses and brands that truly matter. As I transition to the next chapter, I remain deeply grateful for the trust, support and shared ambition that defined my time here, and I wish the teams at Sony LIV and Studio NEXT continued success in the years ahead.”
