Cricket fans await Nimbus telecast rights decision

The India cricket rights debacle continues with the telecast decision by Nimbus, which was expected today, now being announced on Thursday.

Biz Asia has been inundated with emails from concerned cricket fans about the upcoming England tour of India, which begins in under a week’s time. An announcement by rights holder Nimbus was due today but last minute talks between BSkyB, pay per view service Setanta, and major Asian players ZEE Network and Sony Entertainment Television Asia have apparently led to the announcement being halted until tomorrow.

According to reports, Sky Sports also remains in the race to scoop the rights for the upcoming series and this after weekend news that Nimbus had opted against the BSkyB owned channel because of its low bid.

Also there is speculation that if Sky Sports do win the rights then it could possibly share its telecast with another Asian TV channel. There are also reports suggesting that Sony Entertainment Television Asia has put down a $10m (5m) bid for the rights. All is currently in the air and we will have a clearer picture tomorrow when the final announcement is made. Rest assured, Biz Asia will bring you all the very latest throughout the day.
