Club Asia makes history: DJs up for top radio gongs

music station Club Asia has today made history with two of its presenters being nominated for the Commercial Radio Companies Association (CRCA) NTL Broadcast Awards.

The awards, seek to recognise excellence in all aspects of commercial radio from production to presenting. This is also the first time in the awards history that two Asians have been nominated for two categories, not only that but they are from the same station, Club Asia 963+972AM.

It’s a huge boost for the station, which is barely two years old. Up for the big radio gongs are the ?loud and proud? Breakfast Show host Missy D for Commercial Radio Presenter of the Year and Jas ?The Man? on Drive is up for the Commercial Radio Presentation Newcomer of the Year.

Sumerah Ahmad, Club Asia?s Creative Director, comments ?We are so proud of our presenters. It?s great to see that their hard work and talent has been universally recognised by those outside of the Asian community. Their nomination is also a testament to all the talent here at Club Asia and within the Asian community as a whole. We all have our fingers crossed for them and wish them the best of luck at the awards.?

A shocked Missy D comments, ?Oh my god, I?m just gob smacked. Being nominated by industry professionals means a lot to me, it?s nice to see that your work is recognised. The fact that Jas and I are the first Asians to be nominated for our categories is really something. I guess it will demonstrate to the Asian community that a profession in the media industry is one that is viable?.

The CRCA received a record number of entries this year, with over 350 coming in across all categories. The entries were then judged by a panel of industry professionals who short-listed them down to three nominees per category. Jas ?The Man? on Drive adds, ?It?s great to be nominated especially as I am very new to the industry. The fact that Missy and I are the first ever Asians to be nominated in our categories is a fantastic achievement and hopefully it will open the door for other Asians. This is not only a boost for us but also for Club Asia and all the team?.

The awards will be presented on Friday 24th June 2005 in London.

Club Asia is also available on Sky Digital EPG 895.
