Box Office: ‘Udta Punjab’ rakes in Rs. 10 crore on first day

The most awaited movie of 2016, ‘Udta Punjab’ released yesterday and has already clocked in a whopping 10.05 crores. If this is what the first day collection looks like then the weekend collection will interesting.

However, distributor Rajesh Thadani told IANS, ���The opening is just average and I think the film will just collect about Rs.8 to 9 crore on its first day, which is below our expectation. The opening has certainly not been encouraging considering the controversy.”

He added, ���The film has not opened well in single screens and even in multiplexes, the film has opened well just in a few pockets. Considering the controversies there were more expectation from the film in terms of its box office opening but strangely the numbers are not really encouraging.�۝

Udta Punjab is an Abhishek Chaubey movie starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh. The movie released on June 17th under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phanton Films.
