Box Office: ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ targets ‘Krrish 3’ Diwali figures

With Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3′ (2013) holding on to the trophy as the biggest Diwali release ever at the India box office, it seems Yash Raj Films’ ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ is hoping to beat its all-time business.

‘Krrish 3’ had garnered Rs. 245 crore, which is expected to thrashed by the Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif ambitious epic.

A source told The Asian Age, “Thugs of Hindostan is believed to have been made at a cost of over Rs 200 crore. While satellite and digital rights are expected to fetch a handsome price, the film needs to make Rs 400 crore at the box office to break even, a feat that’s not been accomplished by any Diwali release in the history of Bollywood. For the film to be deemed a super-hit, it has to break the records set by Aamir Khan’s Dangal (Rs 487 crore) and Baahubali 2 (Rs 511 crore), and both of those films weren’t Diwali releases.”

Incidentally, Khan’s last Diwali release was ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ in 1994 but proved a flop at the box office. He is hoping his fate has changed at the Diwali box office, 24 years later.
