Box Office: ‘Sarbjit’ gets off to a sluggish start

The opening day collections of this weekend’s huge release ‘Sarbjit’ has not been as makers had expected.

According to Box Office India, the initial response has been in the region of 15%, with the film facing competition from Hollywood flick ‘X Men – Apocalypse’. ‘Sarbjit’ did slightly better in North India. However, the collections still do not be on par with the amount of publicity, which was given to the film.

The high-Punjabi content in the film may help the film’s survival in Delhi and Punjab but it has opposition from Gippy Grewal’s Punjabi film ‘Kaptaan’. The latter has opened up to an average response. However, the film has more occupancy at cinemas in those territories than ‘Sarbjit’.

‘Sarbjit’ was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, with stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Richa Chadha.
