As expected the the sequel to the 2010 smash hit Dabangg۪ got off to a record breaking start at ticket windows across India this morning. The film is expected to cross Rs. 25 crore on its first day (Box Office India) and if reports of the film are good then it is likely to challenge the overall box office record held by Three Idiots۪ (2009). As it stands though, the film is a sure shot winner and will most likely be Salman Khan۪s fifth blockbuster in a row.
The Aamir-Rani-Kareena murder mystery ‘Talaash’ continues to do well but is now nearing the end of its run. Its total across India is approximately Rs 94 crore whilst in the UK the film is still steady at number 12 and added a further 61,714 to its total – 839,375(source: BFI).
Khiladi 786۪ has failed to make a mark overseas and dropped out of the top 20 but its total in India is still an impressive Rs 70 crore not bad by any means.
There are no releases in the next few weeks until the Imran-Anushka starrer Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola۪, which is just as well as Dabangg 2۪ is likely to dominate for the next fortnight at least.
