Birthday Love: Salman Khan – The romantic hero of the 90s

When one thinks of this Khan, the one genre which automatically comes to mind is action, with the next being comedy and lastly romance. However when this actor first started his career it was the romantic genre that made this young man get noticed. He was the hero that girls were swooning over and the one that all the boys wanted to be like. This actor is none other than Salman Khan who made waves in the late 80s with the romantic drama ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989).

On the 27th December Khan will be celebrating his 53rd birthday and to mark this occasion BizAsiaLive.com will travel back in time to the 90s where this Khan was the perfect romantic hero.

‘Chandni Raat Hai’ from ‘Baaghi: A Rebel For Love’ (1990)
Naghma appeared alongside Khan in this melodious number which talked about the moonlit night and how the two of them are together. The song had the essence of young love and showed a some what innocence between the two love birds. Abhijeet’s voice was perfect for Khan and suited his chocolate hero avatar with Kavita Krishnamurthy singing for Naghma. The music was not too fast nor was it too slow, it was just at the right tempo with the sounds of the flute resounding throughout the song.

In some parts of the song there are dream sequences that take place where both Khan and Naghma are dressed in white to signify the moon. It’s a song that can still be enjoyed and watched with the whole family.

‘Saathiya Yeh Tune Kya Kiya’ from ‘Love’ (1991)
Revathi and Khan had an amazing chemistry in this film especially this song. The song was picturised showing the two actors in a playful manner with the two joking with one another, playing pranks and at the same time expressing their love for one another.

S P Balasubramaniam and Chitra lent their vocals for this amazing song which brought life to Majrooh Sultanpuri’s lyrics. The best way to describe this song would be to say that it is sweet with a certain playfulness.

‘Pyaasa Kuen Ke Paas’ from ‘Dil Tera Aashiq’ (1993)
Khan’s pairing with Madhuri Dixit Nene has always been appreciated and during the 90’s they appeared in many hit films together. This particular film was enjoyed by many because of its entertaining storyline and the songs. This song had Khan trying to woo Dixit Nene who he manages to woo in his dreams but in reality he is far from it.

The lyrics had Khan’s character Vijay praising Sonia’s (Dixit Nene) beauty and spoke of the things that made him crazy about her. Udit Narayan’s vocals were on point and the way he sang the song it seemed like Khan was actually singing himself.

‘Bahon Ke Darmiyan’ from ‘Khamoshi The Musical’ (1996)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali presented Khan in a totally different manner in this film. He was gentle, caring, understanding and a tiny bit jealous. Khan was seen with Manisha Koirala in this family drama which saw his character Raj bring happiness into the life of Annie (Koirala).

The situation in the song is such that Raj is upset with Annie as they were supposed to spend the whole day together as he has to leave the next day. That very day her father ends up having an accident which results in her having to spend the whole day with her family and comforting her mother. Raj is jealous as he feels left out as though he has no place in her life. When Annie explains to Raj what had happened he comforts her and thus begins this soft piece that touches the heart.

Hariharan and Alka Yagnik were a suitable choice for this song as their soothing vocals went in sync with the melodious music.

‘Madhosh Dil Ki Dhadkan’ from ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (1998)
This dreamy song makes one want to drift into another world such is the beauty of the song. They say simplicity is best and in this case it is true because the song was not only beautiful to listen to but also to watch. The director picked some stunning locations showing Khan and Twinkle Khanna romancing with snow capped mountains in the background. It was the first time that Khan and Khanna were paired together, luckily this pairing worked making this song and this film a hit.

Khan’s expressions in the song would make any heart melt it is no wonder that Khanna in the song can’t help but fall for Khan’s charm. Also credit should be given to Lata Mangeshkar and Kumar Sanu as they did wonders with this song making this song more magical with their voices.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Salman Khan a very happy birthday and all the best for his upcoming film ‘Bharat’ which will be releasing in 2019.
