Birthday Love: Arijit Singh’s most romantic songs

Widely regarded as the greatest vocalist in contemporary Bollywood, Arijit Singh has risen to the top with numerous chartbusters and ability to strike a chord with people’s hearts every time he sings a song. Be it a romantic number or a power-packed upbeat track, Singh has managed to deliver both with equal grace and sincerity. Having made his debut back in 2009, Singh was declared the most-streamed Indian artist of 2020 and 2021 by Spotify. As the melodious voice turns another year older, BizAsiaLive.com looks back to five of his most romantic songs.

Tum Hi Ho from ‘Aashiqui 2’ (2013)
Hitting 5 million views on YouTube within 10 days of its release, this song helped the film garner a massive ₹132 crores in an unimaginable 11-week run worldwide. A happy romantic number, the song brought the story of a lover sharing his happiness with the world. Soulful and dripping with melody, Tum Hi Ho also gave Singh his first Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.

Sawan Aaya Hai from Creature 3D (2014)
Composed and written by Tony Kakkar, this song featured Bipasha Basu and Pakistani actor Imran Abbas Naqvi. Its melody, lovelorn lyrics and quintessential vocals by Singh made it an instant hit, notching over a million views on YouTube in the first week of its release.

Soch Na Sake from Airlift (2016)
Featuring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur from the 2016 action-thriller, this song expressed the anguish the couple felt when they parted, and the deep bond they shared. Whilst Singh dominated in almost all the songs in this film, this particular number was praised for its moving rendition and the soulful mellifluous voice which complimented the brilliant composition.

Zaalima from ‘Raees’ (2017)
Written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, and composed by JAM8, the vocals for this song were sung by Harshdeep Kaur in addition to Singh. Showcasing Shah Rukh Khan at his romantic best, the tune is striking, and both vocalists stand out in it, giving the word Zaalima (oppressor) a poetic twist. A modernised touch of traditional tabla and dholak beats in the song provided an overall sound that was soft and ambient to listen to becoming a firm favourite of Bollywood fans.

Ve Maahi‘Kesari’ (2019)
A slow romantic number which takes the audience through the innocent love story of the characters of Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra as the soulful voice of Singh makes us forget everything. His voice does all the due justice to this beautiful ballad and manages to induce the true essence to each syllable that comes from his mouth. The song managed to notch up over 500 million view on it’s official upload to YouTube and was recognised as the Favourite Song of the Year at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards India.
