BBC “sacks” Tommy Sandhu over reported lewd comments

BBC Asian Network presenter, Tommy Sandhu has reportedly been sacked by the corporation after being a part of a WhatsApp group, which made sexist comments and homophobic comments about other BBC colleagues.

While Sandhu was a part of the group chat, along with at least three others, it is not yet known if he made such derogatory remarks. Producer Kejal Kamani was sacked last month. Fellow producer, Asheesh Sharma has been given a final warning.

The Daily Mail reports that Sandhu seeking legal advice and has claimed that he is being punished for failing to police comments by others in the group. He told Daily Mail, “At this stage I am taking legal advice, but I want to underline that at no point did I engage, comment or reply to any racist comment on any WhatsApp group.” The BBC could face the employment tribunal over the decision.

The WhatsApp messages were found on a BBC laptop by assistant producer Amanpreet Kaur.

The BBC has not yet commented on Sandhu’s “sacking”.
