BBC local radio stations audience continue to fall

The audience of some of BBC local radio stations continued to wane, as competition from other stations and digital devices grew.

According to a Sunday Times report, some BBC stations have lost more than a million listeners over the past five years. Weekly reach figures show a fall for BBC local stations across the UK from 9.2 million in 2013, to 7.8 million at present.

The report adds that some stations in smaller cities have suffered a larger blow with BBC Essex dropping from 236,000 to 160,000 over five years, similarly 105,000 to just 66,000 for BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.
