BBC Asian Network snaps up a Sony gong

The BBC Asian Network is celebrating today after it walked away with a Sony Radio Academy Award last night.

Bobby Friction’s move to a daily late night slot has proved a winner, with the show snapping up ‘The Specialist Music Programme Award’ for ‘Friction’. It۪s the second time Friction has won this award, in 2004; he bagged the accolade for the same category.

The judges said of Friction; “An exciting, passionate, evangelical presentation of the genre. Thrilling radio that engages and captivates, managing to be inclusive without patronising. Great radio moments and a brilliant presenter.”

Friction has been presenting in the 22:00 slot since the BBC Asian Network announced major schedule changes in March last year.

The BBC Asian Network could only manage one award from the three it was nominated for. It lost the award for ‘Digital Station Of The Year’ to Gaydar Radio and ‘News Feature Award’ to BBC Radio 4.
