Asian FX Radio proposes to replace Love Sport on London frequency

Ofcom has today commenced a consultation process after Asian FX Radio proposed to takeover the Love Sport analogue frequency in North London.

As the station is planning to change the frequency’s “character” of service from sports news to a fully fledged Asian output, Ofcom is therefore required to run a consultation period.

Love Sport currently provides a 24-hour speech service for Londoners focusing on sports, topical content and local information. The licensee has requested to change this to a contemporary Asian / urban music-led station for young British Asians.

Incidentally, the frequency 1584AM previously belonged to Panjab Radio before it acquired the much wider 558AM frequency. Love Sport, which was on 558AM then moved to 1584AM, however, it now plans to focus on just DAB plans.

Meanwhile, Asian FX Radio is planning a comeback with a much stronger presence in the market. Asian FX Radio currently broadcasts on DAB and online online.

Ofcom must receive all responses by Tuesday 1st September at 17:00.

The consultation process for this plan can be found here.
