Amrita Singh to debut on TV in STAR soap

Bollywood star of yesteryears Amrita Singh is set to make a debut on the small screen come January 2005. It will be in Balaji?s mega-serial titled Kul (Dynasty). Singh plays a powerful multi-faceted character called Nitya and mother to the male lead (a new face).

Singh, it is learnt, has been paid a whopping amount for the soap – a remuneration approximating Rs 10 lakh. “She will not be paid per episode but per month,” reveal sources. “This will be regardless of whether she shoots for one day or 15 days,” add sources.

Kul is slated to be aired from January, 2005 on Star Plus. When contacted producer Ekta Kapoor was not keen to divulge too many details about the soap. All that she was willing to say was, “Yes, Amrita has been confirmed to play Nitya in Kul. This will be my biggest serial so far not just in terms of cost but creativity but also expectations from the people. A new set has been erected for the soap in specially designed aqua colours,” adds Kapoor.

The reason why Singh was roped in for the soap “was because she symbolises a certain magic on screen, a powerful aura and there is that dignity that is associated with Amrita which is required in the character, ” the sources further add.
