Amol Rajan to leave BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme

Amol Rajan is stepping down from BBC Radio 4’s flagship ‘Today’ programme after nearly five years as a presenter. Rajan announced he plans to launch his own company.

While leaving the news programme, Rajan will continue working with the BBC on non-news projects, including hosting the quiz show University Challenge and presenting the Radical podcast.

The BBC confirmed that a replacement for Rajan on ‘Today’ will be announced “in due course”. Editorial guidelines would likely have prevented him from remaining on the news programme while running his own business.

Rajan joined ‘Today’ in March 2021, effectively replacing John Humphrys, who had left 18 months earlier. Before that, he served as BBC News media editor and guest-presented several major programmes, including The One Show and BBC Radio 2.
