Ajay Devgn has not been known to attend any international film festivals to date. However, this is all about to change as BizAsia has come to know that his first international production, ‘Parched’, has been selected at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2015 in the ‘Special Presentations’ category. The actor-producer will be walking his first ever festival red carpet for the same.

The 46-year-old told Mumbai Mirror, “Usually I stay away from the glitz and madness of film awards and events. But I am excited to attend TIFF because it celebrates world cinema. That’s where the best of the world’s talent meet, greet and appreciate each other”.

The film is a focus on women in a village who go against traditions. It’s directed by Leena Yadav. Devgn further stated, “As artistes it is our responsibility to support films which are socially relevant yet entertaining. And as filmmakers we would be happy if even 10 percent of our audience take the thought back home with them. The film takes a close look at the reality of our male-driven misogynistic world. I agreed to support Leena’s vision because I felt it’s time we paid some attention to issues such as these.”

The film will be screened alongside prominent Hollywood features at the festival and Devgn is hopeful that it will give indie cinema a place amongst the international spectrum.

The film stars Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla, Adil Hussain andTannishtha Chatterjee in the lead roles.
