Aamir Khan backs out of Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Vikram Vedha’ remake?

Neeraj Pandey’s remake of Tamil movie ‘Vikram Vedha’ (2017) has been hanging in limbo since its initial announcement. The movie was earlier rumoured to star Shah Rukh Khan but things turned sour after Shah Rukh asked to replace the director duo of Pushkar and Gayathri, who were assigned to direct at the time. The film came back into the spotlight last year when Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan reportedly agreed to play the lead roles. They verbally agreed to the suspense thriller and were supposed to start shooting from March this year. However, as with everything in the world, things were brought to a halt with the current pandemic.

Reports now say that ‘Vikram Vedha’ might still not get into production anytime soon, despite shoots resuming in the industry. Sources close to the project say Aamir has backed out of the film and thus bringing uncertainty to its future, reports Peeping Moon. He is said to have left the film because its script didn’t satisfy him.

The crime thriller, inspired by the folk tale of Raja Vikramaditya and the spirit Betaal, was supposed to bring Aamir and Saif together for the first time since ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001). Aamir was believed to be playing the role of the most-wanted gangster that was originally portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi. While Saif was to reprise R Madhavan’s role as the righteous police officer. Although Saif is still said to be associated with the project, it is yet unclear how the production will continue without Amir’s involvement.

Aamir, meanwhile, is currently busy with his 2021 Christmas offering, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The movie is an official adaptation of Tom Hanks’ ‘Forrest Gump’ (1994). He is expected to complete the film by February and then he will jump into the preparations for music baron Gulshan Kumar’s biopic, ‘Mogul.’
