Zoya Akhtar reacts to ‘Gully Boy’ being compared to Eminem’s ‘8 Mile’

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gully Boy’ is one of the much awaited films of the month. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film is all set to release tomorrow on 14th February. The makers of the film have left no stone unturned to promote the film and it has only managed to increase the value ofthe movie. However, during the trailer release last month, ‘Gully Boy’ was compared to ‘8 Mile’ (2002). Many found it a rip-off of Eminem’s story.

However, director Zoya Akhtar thinks that people had the same reaction to the trailer of her film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011) too, but eventually, when the film released, people had a positive reaction, reports Pinkvilla. Akhtar said, “I don’t react to this as people had said the same thing about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and when the film came out, nobody said anything. There is nothing to react as it is completely understandable that it is just a reference point.”

‘8 Mile’ is loosely based on American rapper Eminem’s life and his struggle. ‘Gully Boy’ is inspired from the life journey of two street rappers Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy.
