ZEE Network has confirmed it will be ending its local drama ‘Cloud 9’ on Zing this month after just six months on-air.

The much publicised drama, which was launched in January this year, was the broadcaster’s experiment to give local Asian drama a push as the first of its kind in the UK.

The drama portrayed multi-cultural British life, with the cast featuring a mix of Brit Asian, English, plus true desi۪ characters. It brought to life important British Asian values of family life, aspirations, tradition and modernity.

As the first series comes to an end, viewers, who have been pushing for the union of Ajay and Simran, will find out what love can be like in real life and how expectations, values, and practicalities combine to move the bonding of two people forward. Will it be Simran and Raj with Ajay having learnt more lessons in life, or Simran and Ajay, with the victory of true love۪?

The finale of the first series will also see Nisha (Niki Walia) put a stand to the return of her ex-husband, Sanjay, in the life of her family. Will she forgive and accept the man who had left her with only his own interests at heart or will she portray the strength of womanhood? Will her son Johnny be grateful for a chance to learn more about the most important man in his life or bear the grudge of hatred?

Archana Kanade, Business Head – Free-To-Air Channels, It has been exciting working on such a dynamic and path-setting show. Every single member of the cast and crew has been an immense pleasure to work with. Cloud 9 has set a record for the Brit-Asian spirit. We wanted to reach a particular type of audience with this show and it has achieved this from its on-air activities to its marketing and even online conversations on social media. The show is tailored to the market norm of its audience, with a compact series, rather than the common format of a long-form South-Asian drama. Zing aims to be a truly courageous and innovative Brit-Asian brand and it۪s great to see the audience be receptive to this. Zing will continue to build on this and experiment with new Brit-Asian targeted shows.۝

Valmike Rampersad, Lead Actor in Cloud 9-Ajay, Working on Cloud 9 has been a very rewarding experience. The opportunity of an intense schedule and fast pace has been an excellent learning curve, as most of my work has been on feature films and short films in the mainstream space, where the pace is often slower. I have developed some excellent friendships with a really talented cast and crew and we have all pulled together to make the show something to be proud of.”

The final episode of ‘Cloud 9’ airs on Zing on Friday 28th June at 18:30 and 22:30.
