ZEE TV to launch ‘Detective Didi’ in weekend slot

ZEE TV is set to launch new weekend fiction ‘Detective Didi’ in December.

The show produced by Ila Bedi’s Trilogy Krikos, previously worked with ZEE TV for ‘Hitler Didi’. The new show stars Sonia Balani and Manish Goplani. ‘Detective Didi’ is based in Delhi.

Deepak Rajadhyaksha, Deputy Business Head, ZEE TV said, “Over the past 25 years, Zee TV has been at the forefront of presenting viewers with a relatable glimpse of the common man’s life and aspirations, and Detective Didi is another step in this direction. The show is a racy, action-packed show that traces the journey of a razor-sharp girl detective who, with her own knack for sleuthing, has made a mark for herself in a domain otherwise dominated by men and considered unsafe for women. Juggling between nabbing criminals and managing her family responsibilities, Bunty will serve as an inspiration for many young girls who wish to strike the perfect balance between fulfilling their ambitions and staying rooted to their family values. It is the very first time that we have introduced a detective drama over our weekend primetime, adding variety to our offerings and inviting fresh audiences to sample our content. The combination of Zee TV, producer Ila Bedi Datta and Delhi has given us the immensely successful Hitler Didi in the past and we intend to create yet another successful show with Detective Didi.”

Commenting on the show, producer Ila Bedi Dutta said, “Detective Didi is not only a show packed with action and sleuthing, but it also deals with a lot of emotions and real-life instances. Bunty Sharma is a reflection of many women within the Indian populace who are ambitious yet maintain a strong sense of responsibility towards their families. She isn’t your typical professional detective, she is an amateur with an uncanny knack for spotting crime and arresting it in time. Being a family person herself, she closely understands the human angle behind the concerns of the common man in distress. It is often the emotional aspects of a situation that drive her to crack a case and nailing the culprit. Bunty’s spirit and determination will uplift the hopes of many Indian women to start afresh and give a new meaning to their lives. Audiences will also enjoy the competitive spirit and spirit of sporty one-upmanship between Bunty and Bhim. Given that the story is based in Delhi, we have shot the show extensively across reallocations within the capital city to add a strong layer of authenticity to Bunty and Bhim Singh Bhullar’s many adventures.”

Speaking about playing Bunty’s character, Sonia Balani said, “Bunty’s character is not only strong but layered interestingly. This is the first time that I am playing a role of this type, and it was both exciting and challenging for me. It has been a fascinating experience running through the bylanes of Delhi, shooting action sequences and donning disguises. But one strong reason that made me take up this show is Bunty’s multi-faceted personality that allows her to stay rooted back at home even as she cracks down on criminals in the big, bad world outside. She exudes all the essential traits of a modern Indian woman as she strives to strike the perfect balance between her personal and professional life. I am elated to be a part of the show and hope that the viewers will appreciate and support me in this new role and endeavor.”

‘Detective Didi’ launches on Saturday 9th December at 20:00. It will air Saturday and Sunday evenings.
