ZEE takes London Mela to Wembley

ZEE London Mela
ZEE London Mela

This year’s ZEE London Mela is moving to Wembley Park for the first time presenting a free festival in a day featuring British Asian and international artists across two major stages, complemented by the mouth-watering Tastes of Asia Food Market and bursting with heaps of exciting and colourful entertainment for the whole family.

Previously, the London Mela, which has been held at Gunnersbury Park, Ealing, was turned into a paid event. This year, the event at the park was halted due to council funding issues. Mela organisers, Remarkable Productions, had since set up a new independent trust to manage the mela.

Critically acclaimed, the London Mela introduces the best in classical music, British Asian urban artists, dance, comedy and cabaret, Asian-influenced street theatre and circus, as well as exhibitions. And, with a third of the audience from non-Asian communities, it is a truly intercultural family event with something for every generation of every community. The event will see the likes of Zack Knight, Ska Vengers, Hussain Brother and The Urban Rajah taking part.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said, This wonderful family event showcases the fantastic diversity of Asian arts and culture in the capital, and invites Londoners from all backgrounds to come together and get involved. Over the last fourteen years the Mela really has gone from strength to strength, with fantastic street theatre, dancing and delicious Asian cuisine. It۪s events like this, taking place in all corners of the city that remind us that London Is Open, for all of our communities and to the world.۝

Ajay Chhabra, Artistic Director London Mela (Nutkhut), We are delighted to be coming to Wembley Park this year; such an iconic venue with a large South Asian community on its door step. We will be presenting a packed festival programme for the whole family. Staying true to our tradition of fusing popular music stages with circus and street theatre, the Mela will again feature acts both weird and wonderful, which make the London Mela brand unique.
