Broadcasters ZEE Network and Sunrise Radio have been named as media partners for this year’s Vaisakhi celebrations in London’s Trafalgar Square.
The fifth annual ‘ Vaisakhi On The Square’ event marking the Sikh New Year Festival, will take place on Sunday 29th April 2007, organised by the Mayor of London, in association with the Vaisakhi in London Committee.
Vaisakhi is the main Sikh festival of the year and is celebrated in major cities and towns across the country. All Londoners are welcome to enjoy the free celebration in Trafalgar Square, which will begin with prayers and messages for peace. Shabad Kirtan will be performed by groups from London Gurdwaras.
This will be followed by an afternoon programme of traditional and modern Asian music entertainment courtesy of Sunrise Radio. Free vegetarian food will be served during the afternoon.
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: “Vaisakhi promotes friendship and mutual respect, a message that has particular relevance to London, the most diverse city in the world. All are welcome to join this festival, which underlines the core Sikh values of equality, diversity and tolerance”.
