ZEE scoops rights to ‘Umrao Jaan’

If industry hearsay is to be believed then ZEE Network has won the India TV rights of the movie ‘Umrao Jaan’. The J.P Dutta magnum opus, which is a re-hashed version of the classic Rekha and Farooque Sheikh directed by Muzaffar Ali will be releasing later this year. J.P Dutta, who has churned out mega hits like ‘Border’ and ‘LOC Kargil’ is currently in production with Umrao Jaan. His version of the film stars on and off real life couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. This latest acquisition for ZEE will favour the network immensely. With the whole of Venus films already under its belt and many other blockbusters including ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’ and ‘Pyare Mohan’ being tipped for telecast later in the year, it looks like ZEE Cinema is pulling out all the stops to make the channel a more of an attractive affair.
