ZEE News’ studios attacked by political party

The Mumbai office of ZEE News was attacked today at 20:00 by an Indian political party.

According to the website TelevisionPoint, up to 100 Shiv Sena members stormed the offices. Three cars and one OP van was demolished by the Sena people, injuring more than 10 employees. The Mumbai office run three channels – ZEE News, ZEE Business and ZEE Marathi. According to sources, Shiv Sena Head Bala Saheb is unhappy about the way the ZEE Gaurav awards were presented. The awards were held on 5th February.

ZEE group spokesperson Ashish Kaul said the police arrived on the scene half an hour after the mob left. “The mob came in around 20:00 armed with iron rods and hockey sticks and attacked watchman. The activists first went up to the first floor where the production units are housed. After ransacking it, they moved up to the third floor where the programming offices are located. They smashed the windows, furniture and computers and tore out phone lines.”

Eyewitnesses said the activists were clearly trying to demoralise the media for its consistent reportage of the fake stamp scam.
