Just when one thought things couldn’t get anymore competitive in the UK television market, its been confirmed that ZEE Network UK is planning to launch three new channels in UK/Europe this summer.

BizAsiaLive.com understands that Ofcom has approved the licence requests for &Pictures, ZEE Tamil and ZEE Poland. While the latter will be an entertainment channel for the Polish speaking diaspora in Poland, the other two will be launching in the UK. &Pictures will strengthen the & brand in the UK by joining &TV, which has done well in UK ratings. &Pictures will be the network’s second movies channel after ZEE Cinema. Recently, &TV has reduced movie premieres and understands that daytime movies will also be removed – this is said to be a result of the imminent launch of &Pictures.

Similarly, ZEE Tamil, will be ZEE Network’s foray into the non-Hindi language market. Currently, it only operates ZEE Punjabi to the UK Punjabi community. ZEE Tamil will be the first Tamil channel in the UK.

ZEE Network is also set to launch a HD version of ZEE TV soon.

  1. Very nice to see that they are going to launch Zee Tamil in UK. But as you write, Zee Tamil will not be the first Tamil TV from/or in UK.

The first Tamil TV-channel from UK is Deepam TV. Then Cee(I)TV Tamil was launched through Reminiscent TV Network (but the channel is closed down now). Then we also saw Vectone Tamil – which is also closed down now.

Currently there are only three Tamil TV-channels telecasting from UK which are Deepam TV, Athavan TV (from Lyca Media) and IBC Tamil TV (from Lebara).

  2. They should launch ZEE Mundo in Spain because spanish people have curiosity about Bollywood.
They dubbed movies like My Name is Khan and Bang Bang.
The spanish dubbing is much better than Latin American Spanish(Mexico,Argentina, etc.)

  3. Many Tamil channels was available on Eutelsat 9 and Hotbird 19 back in the days. It was more Tamil channels than Hindi and Urdu channels. Also Ceei tv Tamil was available as South For You on Sky UK for many years before it shut down in 2011.

Star Vijay TV from Star network is still available on Eutelsat 9 for UK and Europe viewers. I think Zee Tamil UK will compete with Star Vijay UK
