ZEE Media to launch Urdu & Gujarati news channels

ZEE Media is planning to strengthen its presence in the regional language news sector by adding Urdu and Gujarati news services to its huge portfolio of news channels.

India’s media regulator, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting approved the two services, which will be known as ZEE Urdu and ZEE 24 Kalak. It is believed ZEE will be rushing the launch of ZEE 24 Kalak ahead of the assembly elections in Gujarat in December. It will face stiff competition from leader, TV9 Gujarati and other rivals ABP Asmita, GSTV and VTV Gujarati.

Meanwhile, ZEE Urdu will go against ETV Urdu, while Aalami Samay will also give it competition. ZEE India also runs Urdu infotainment channel, ZEE Salaam.

Launch dates for both channels are yet to be announced.
