ZEE India plans to shut 9X & ZEE Premier

ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) is planning to restructure its television business by bidding adieu to pay channels, 9X and ZEE Premier this month.

According to TelevisionPoint, 9X and ZEE Premier will cease operations from 13th and 15th April respectively. ZEE Premiere was launched as a channel offering blockbuster movies, while 9X was acquired from INX Media in 2010, broadcasting old shows from ZEE TV. The report adds that the acquisition helped the company to enjoy tax benefits.

Apparently, ZEE plans to launch a HD version of ZEE Cafe in India. A source told TelevisionPost, ���Ideally ZEE Caf̩ HD should have been launched long back; however, it didn�۪t happen for some reason. We have HD channels for all mainline channels so it is but natural to have one for ZEE Caf̩ as well.”

Last year, ZEE closed down its fashion channel, Trendz.
