ZEE Gujarati ceases broadcasting

The UK’s only Gujarati serving channel has closed down.

ZEE Gujarati, which launched in the UK in 2005 has had a turbulent time in India. Bosses at the network decided to shut the channel after making a loss in a market where revenue income was small.

ZEE Gujarati was available on Sky Digital channel on 811. Its last show ‘Vansh’ was aired before midnight last night.

ZEE Network UK now compromises of five channels, which will soon become four when ZEE Radio closes. The radio station has had a little repreive, it was due to cease yesterday but now has been put back until end of May.

ZEE Network UK recently confirmed it has hired Canis Media to consolidate its business model as it now concentrates on its core television business.

Canis Media is also handling the sale of ZEE Radio’s assets including AM licence (six hours per day via Spectrum Radio), London DAB licence, Sky Digital EPG slot and an online streaming licence.
