Zakir Hussain passes away aged 73

Renowned tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain has passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco, where he had been hospitalised due to serious health issues.

The US-based musician, celebrated for taking the tabla to the global stage, had been battling blood pressure complications and a heart-related condition. According to his manager, Nirmala Bachani, “He had been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart-related problem over the last two weeks.”

Hussain’s unparalleled contributions to Indian classical music and his collaborations with global artists have left an indelible mark on the world of music. His loss is being deeply mourned by fans and the music fraternity worldwide.
