‘YRKKH’ actress Pankhuri Awasthy opens up about backlash from fans

Fans have become angered with the recent track in Star Plus’ popular series ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, where Karthik (Mohsin Khan) and Vedika (Pankhuri Awasthy) get married, leaving Naira (Shivangi Joshi) out of the equation. As well as the makers, who have received much flak, Awasthy has also had to bare the most brunt of their harsh words.

“I honestly wasn’t (prepared) because this is a different kind of backlash I received. When I joined, it did come to me that I might receive flak for my character because obviously, people are diehard fans of Kaira. But the nature of backlash I have been getting is not something I can count in the term of rationality,” Pinkvilla reports Awashty express.

She went on to add, “The thing is it is a vicious cycle. They will bash you for a certain thing. They will say they are commenting on the character but will make personal remarks. Then when you give it back, they will either delete the comment. The only option we have is to block these people. When you try to knock them off, they will target you saying you don’t respect their sentiments and more. I have understood that I am not dealing with people who I can reason with and that there is no point.”

The actress had also posted a video in regards to the sentiments she was receiving which also caused more people to come out and scrutinize her. On this, she explained, “That video which I had put, there was no intention of hurting anyone. It wasn’t supposed to be perceived in such a negative manner. I wouldn’t want to jeopardise anyone’s feelings for the show or my co-stars but I can only listen to the point where I can relate to them. But, if they continue to make stories about me, then I will have to give it back. In fact, they were making fun of what I was being called by fans, it wasn’t even on fans. But yes, some of the actors they came out in my support. They got a backlash for that too though.”

Here’s hoping as the show goes on, the makers are able to gain back their viewers trust.
