With most mainstream news channels switching to rolling news coverage on the UK riots over the past couple of days, Asian broadcasters continued to run their normal programming, with the exception of one.

Only a small, religious, Birmingham based channel attempted to cover live and exclusive coverage from the devastation that was caused in Birmingham. Sangat TV was shown arguing with police to allow them access to cordoned areas for its coverage. Sangat TV needs to be applauded for their efforts and community work.

Should other Asian broadcasters – majority of which are based in the capital, have done more to bring the latest news from the riots in an Asian language for the older audience? Or was it the right decision for them to have continued with normal scheduled shows?
