Yami Gautam on ‘Sarkar 3’: “First time I’ll be playing a grey character”

Apart from gearing up for her upcoming release, ‘Kaabil’, alongside Hrithik Roshan, Yami Gautam is also excited about her role in the next installment of the ‘Sarkar’ franchise.

The film will mark her debut as a villain which she is looking forward to. “This is the first time I’ll be playing a grey character; I will avenge my father’s death. I am really kicked about my role,” says Gautam, adding that getting to work with Amitabh Bachchan is a dream made into a reality, reports Mid Day. “It’s always been a dream to work with Amitabh sir. It felt surreal to be part of such an ambitious project. I got a lot of positive feedback after Ramu sir (Ram Gopal Varma; director of Sarkar) shared the first look of the characters on the social media (three months back),” said the star.

Meanwhile, Gautam, who plays a visually impaired person in ‘Kaabil,’ says preparing for the character was challenging. “I used to walk around the house with my eyes blindfolded. There were times I would fall. But the exercise helped me enhance my sensory organs. I also researched on how visually impaired people lead a daily life by watching videos on the Internet,” she explained.

The star said she was anxious to work with Roshan as she recalled her first day of shoot. “Celebrities often bump into each other at social gatherings, but that never happened in our case. The first time I met Hrithik was on the sets. I wanted to break the ice, so I told him, ‘Hi, I am nervous’, to which he replied, ‘Hi, I am also very nervous’. He may be a superstar, but he has no baggage about it. I had an amazing time working with him,” she said.

Whilst her last two Bollywood releases in ‘Junooniyat’ (2016) and ‘Sanam Re’ (2016) both 2016) performed poorly at the box office, Gautam is unfazed. All she cares about is exploring different characters. “I don’t have a filmi background. I have made it on my own. My attempt has always been to do something different every time,” she confidently said.

‘Kaabil’ releases 25th January.
