When Sushant SIngh Rajput became MS Dhoni

Sushant Singh Rajput 1

Sushant Singh Rajput is about to be seen playing one of the biggest roles of his career as legendary cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Talking about his experience in reprising the role, for the film titled “MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’, it seems the actor went above and beyond for his performance.

“There are few films and characters that offer you a chance at being a better human being. This is one such opportunity. I have been a huge fan of Dhoni and seen him play for 10 years or so. The biggest challenge for me was to convince myself that I was Dhoni. But now I can comfortably say that I haven۪t played Dhoni, I am Dhoni,”Deccan Chronicle reported Rajput stating.

Despite being a fan, Rajput did ensure his performance was strictly of professional standard, as he went on to add, “There is a thin line between impersonation and characterisation. I had to make sure I don۪t cross over to mimicry. Dhoni has a million fans and they shouldn۪t get a visual jerk in the first few frames. I have done my homework and I think I۪ll be able to communicate his thought process.Given a chance I۪d like to be in the mind of Dhoni just once to understand what he is thinking.”

Talking about the process in becoming Dhoni, Rajput added, “I۪ve tried to walk on Dhoni۪s footprints in the sand, going wherever he has been. I۪ve researched him as much as possible, stayed in the places that he has. His personality has changed. He isn۪t the same physically or emotionally as he was five years ago.”

It seems, the actor was destined to play this role, having dreamed of once becoming a cricketer himself when he was young. “My sister Mitu is a state-level cricketer. I was a national-level player too. In fact, I wanted to take it up as a profession when I was in Class eight or nine. But as the youngest and only son, I was expected to shine in academics, so I chose to be an engineer. I gave up my dream once, I wouldn۪t do it a second time.”

Audiences will be able to see Rajput as Dhoni from 30th September.
