Vodafone to sponsor B’ham Diwali celebrations

Vodafone has been announced as the headline sponsors for this year’s official Diwali celebrations taking place in Birmingham.

The event takes place on Saturday 24th October at Millennium Point and is now the biggest Diwali event in the West Midlands.

The Vodafone Diwali is organised by the Hindu Council of Birmingham with support from Birmingham City Council, also in association with NUR 76, B4U Network, BBC WM, BBC Midlands Today, Asian FX and the Eastern Media Group.

Some of the UK’s hottest Asian acts will be playing at the free concert including Raghav who will be headlining the event, as well as rising stars Navin Kundra, Mumzy, Tasha Tah, 3 Mix, Karen David and Sham, with many premiering new tracks. There will also be an exciting range of dancers and visual artists.

Mahendra Dabhi, President of the Hindu Council of Birmingham, said, “Over the last five years this free event has grown immensely, attracting on average 15,000 visitors during the day. And this year the event, sponsored by Vodafone, promises to be bigger and better!

“Millennium Point will be transformed into a vibrant and colourful arena that showcases the rich culture, lifestyle and spiritual essence of the sub-continent. The growing reputation of the event means that we are able to attract some of the biggest artists in the Asian music industry and some genuinely exciting new young talent from all spheres of the performing arts.”

Cllr Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport & Culture commented, “Birmingham City Council has an extensive annual programme of community events, and this free celebration for Diwali will be a great opportunity for residents and visitors to the city to get together to share cultural traditions and have fun.”

The Vodafone Diwali will take place in the heart of the city at Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham on Saturday 24th October from 14:00 – 20:00.
