Popular Indian television star Vivian DSena has been crowned the Indian Television Personality of 2016 after a huge poll on the UK’s premiere Asian station, Sabras Radio and the UK’s only Asian media and showbiz news website, BizAsiaLive.com.

The annual poll, now in its second year, consists of Top 30 finalists based on votes. It is helmed by Raj Baddhan, who heads the two popular outlets in the UK.

Founder of TV Personality 2016, Raj Baddhan said, “This has been a fantastic year of talent in the Indian television sector. With Indian TV now moving away from the saas-bahu sagas into a new direction, actors are being challenged with new characters. TV Personality 2016 has been able to demonstrate just some of the brilliant talent churned out from the Indian television sphere. Well done to the Top 30 finalists and a huge well done to Vivian DSena, who for the first time has clinched the title of TV Personality of the year. Thank you to everyone who voted and made TV Personality 2016 such a grand success. We got hundreds of thousands of votes this year crashing our systems during the five-week voting period.”

Vivian’s huge fan base around the world has earned him the title of TV Personality 2016 for the first time. The actor, who stars in Colors’ hit show ‘Shakti’ plays Harman Singh and has constantly done well in ratings on the channel since it launched earlier this year. At the beginning of the year, Vivian was also seen in the ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ as a wild card entry.

On winning the TV Personality 2016 poll, Vivian thanked his millions of fans worldwide. He said, “Thank you so much to all the fans for voting me the No.1 TV Personality of 2016 on Sabras Radio and BizAsia. Guys this means a lot that you all got together and got me the No.1 TV Personality of 2016. It’s a very proud moment for me. I’m touched the way you guys have voted for me. Thank you for all the love and support and the efforts. 2016 has been fantastic with Shakti and I promise that 2017 is going to be even better. Please keep giving me the same kind of love and I’ll keep working hard. Thank you.”

Elsewhere in the poll, Indian television princess, Drashti Dhami at No.2 and was placed as the highest female in the countdown. Drashti, a name synonymous to a range of chartbusting shows is currently seen as Naina in Star Plus’ ‘Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil’. She said, “Thank you so much for voting me yet another time. No.2 – Thank you so much! I love you all and as I always say that whatever I am is only because of you. Keep showering me with your blessings. Have an amazing 2017!”

Helly Shah, actress of Colors’ now defunct show ‘Swaragini’ did remarkably well at No.3, followed by ‘Siya Ka Ram’ actor Ashish Sharma, taking the fourth position. He said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my fans and supporters around the world for constantly showering their love and support since the very beginning of my career. Today, you have voted me as one of the biggest Indian TV stars – I’m hugely humbled and indebted by all your love. Thank you so much.”

Rounding off the Top 5 of the TV Personality 2016 countdown was Jennifer Winget, who returned to the small screen this year with the unique thriller ‘Beyhadh’ on Sony Entertainment Television. The actress, who plays Maya has won immense adulation for the portrayal of a passionate lover with a negative shade.

In sixth place was ‘Sadda Haq’ actress, Harshita Gaur, who shot to fame with this youthful show on Channel V. Even though, the show does not air in the UK, Gaur has witnessed huge success on the back of interviews on Sabras Radio and her programme being streamed online. Equally, Parth Samthaan, formerly of ‘Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan’ fame proved one of the youngest heartthrobs of Indian television on MTV India. He is currently working on his Bollywood debut ‘Googly Ho Gayi’. His ex-co-star . Niti Taylor was at No.8 for her hosting of ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’ on Zing.

At No.9 is one of Indian’s television most fashionable icons, Nia Sharma, who quit ‘Jamai Raja’ earlier this year for other projects including ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’. In tenth place was another actress from Colors’ popular fiction ‘Swaragini’, Tejaswi Prakash, known for her character of Ragini.

Others in the poll, included Gautam Rode from ‘Suryaputra Karn’ (11), Krystle D’Souza from ‘Bhramrakshas’ (12), Shaheer Sheikh from ‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’ (13), Namik Paul from ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’ (14), Shakti Arora from ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ (16), Nakuul Mehta from ‘Ishqbaaaz’ (20), Mouni Roy from ‘Naagin’ (22), Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya from ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ (29).
