Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri cancels trailer launch of ‘The Bengal Files’ due to political pressure
Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has been compelled to cancel the trailer launch event for his much-discussed film ‘The Bengal Files’, citing political pressure.
Since the release of its teaser, the film has sparked considerable controversy. Multiple FIRs have been filed by members of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the film of portraying contentious content targeting Banerjee, producer Abhishek Agarwal, and actress-producer Pallavi Joshi. The High Court has since granted interim relief, staying all FIRs.
In a defiant move, Agnihotri announced plans to launch the trailer in Kolkata, West Bengal—the very location where the FIRs were lodged. However, just a day before the scheduled event, Agnihotri posted a video upon landing in Kolkata, revealing that India’s largest cinema chain had cancelled the trailer launch, issuing a formal cancellation letter.

Sharing the video on social media, Agnihotri wrote, “Just landed in Kolkata and learnt that the venue for the trailer launch of #TheBengalFiles is cancelled. Who wants to suppress our voice? And why? But I can’t be silenced. Because truth can’t be silenced.”
