Vidya miffed at halted telecast of ‘The Dirty Picture’

22nd April was supposed to be the day that the world TV premiere of the award-winning movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011) was to happen. As reported by our sister website, BizAsia UK, the Indian government stopped Sony Entertainment Television Asia from going through with the telecast. The bold and beautiful heroine of the film, Vidya Balan, has finallygiven hertakeabout the halt.

The action, taken by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, was slammed by many within and outside the industry. Balan has also spoken out, as reported by the Hindustan Times, “It defies logic when the same government body that hashonoured a film with three National Awards, is now calling for the same film not to be broadcast on national television!”

The actress also added, “I do hope that better sense prevails and that the film industry is not once again used as a convenient high profile punching bag for anyone looking to establish their high moral credentials.۝ The 34-year-old has won numerous Best Actress awards for her performance in the movie.

It has been reported that the Ministry in question was forced to scrap the TV premiere due to over 600 complaints that it was being shown before 11pm. The channel’s Business Head took to Twitter, “Our hands were tied. But it۝ will come soon … with a bang”.

Viewers will have to wait and watch as to whether the movie is indeed allowed to be shown on the small screen in the near future.
