Vidya Balan declined Jayalalithaa biopic for Indira Gandhi?

Vidya Balan is no stranger to playing bold, head-strong women of the past, so it came to no surprise when she was offered to recreate the life of Indian actress-turned-politician Jayaram Jayalalithaa on screen. However, it was her decline of the offer that raised a few eyebrows. Now news has it that the actress has chosen to work on the biopic of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi instead.

“Vidya wants no distractions. She is unlikely to accept any movie offers while she plays Mrs Gandhi. She wants to get Mrs Gandhi’s physicality,  her body language and speech pattern right. She is working on it,” Deccan Chronicle reports a source reveal.

Produced by her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur, the project is set to be a Netflix series, where the actress will be spending most of her time researching for the role.

There had been some attempts in portraying Mrs Gandhi on screen in the past where Manisha Koirala had been offered, however the project never made it to the screens. Here’s hoping this version will see better luck.
