Vidhu Vinod Chopra hopeful about third ‘Munnabhai’ movie this year

The ‘Munnabhai’ series are two of the most loved films of the 2000s. Since then fans have always hoped they would see Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi once again on the screen. However, good news is around the corner as filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has revealed that he is hoping to start work on ‘Munnabhai 3’ by the end of 2019.

The filmmaker told the Indian Express, “I haven’t yet made my next Munnabhai because I didn’t get a proper script. I hope I make it this year.” While Rajkumar Hirani has directed the first two films, it is uncertain if he will handle the reins given the latest #MeToo allegations against him, reports Bollywood Life.

When Dutt was released from prison in 2016, Chopra announced that the film would begin in 2017 which failed to happen. In between, he produced the biopic ‘Sanju’ (2018) that was directed by Hirani. Recently, at the press conference of ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ (2018), he evaded all the questions relating to Hirani’s involvement in the #MeToo scandal and said he would answer them at the right time. Warsi also said that the work was on in full swing for ‘Munnabhai 3.’

Chopra’s production ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ is getting much appreciation from the critics and general audience. It stars Sonam Kapoor as a small-town girl involved in a same-sex relationship. South Indian actress Regina Cassandra plays her love interest.
