Vicky Kaushal fans defend ‘Chhaava’ after Nagpur violence
Following recent riots in Nagpur, Vicky Kaushal’s fans have rallied behind the actor and the film ‘Chhaava’ after it was accused of fueling protests against Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reignited discussions around Aurangzeb, intensifying public emotions against the Mughal ruler. In the aftermath, a section of social media users blamed the team behind ‘Chhaava’ for allegedly stoking communal tensions. Director Laxman Utekar and Kaushal faced criticism, with some accusing them of spreading hatred. However, the actor’s supporters have dismissed these claims, asserting that Kaushal is being unfairly targeted.
Many took to Twitter (now X) to defend Kaushal, arguing that he is merely an actor performing his role. One user wrote, “The outrage over #Chhaava is misplaced! Vicky Kaushal’s stunning portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj honors art! As liberals, we mustn’t scapegoat actors for doing their job brilliantly. Let’s celebrate cinema, not censor it or blame it.”

Another section of social media users pointed out that critics of ‘Chhaava’ were placing undue responsibility on a film that is ultimately a work of artistic expression.
‘Chhaava’ is a biopic on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who fiercely resisted Mughal rule in the 17th century.
