Viacom18 secures ownership of JioHotstar website domain
The domain jiohotstar.com, previously contested by a Delhi-based individual and two Dubai siblings, is now officially under the ownership of Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd., following the merger of Reliance Jio and Disney Hotstar.
Viacom18 representatives confirmed the resolution of the ownership dispute on 2nd December 2024 with WHOIS data corroborating that the domain is registered under Manish Painuly, a Viacom18 representative. The registration, initially filed on 20th September 2023 is valid through 20th September 2026.
The acquisition of jiohotstar.com comes as Viacom18 strengthens its digital footprint following its merger with Star India. The merger integrated Viacom18’s TV and digital businesses with Star India, creating a significant player in the media and entertainment sector. The domain, associated with two of the largest entertainment brands in India, adds strategic value to Viacom18’s digital portfolio.
