Venus TV faces record fine over ads breach
Media regulator Ofcom has fined Venus TV 35,000 for airing a string of commercials that broke the advertising code.
The channel must also broadcast a statement of Ofcom’s findings.
The ads that breached the code were for products including Golden Bull Kastoori Capsules, Jorge Hane Weight Loss, Pandith astrology, Pundit Maharaj astrology and Roopamrit, a face cream called Roopamrit.
Ofcom said: “In light of the serious and repeated nature of the breaches, and having regard to the Licensee’s representations and Ofcom۪s Penalty Guidelines, the Committee decided it was appropriate and proportionate in the circumstances to impose a financial penalty.”
Ofcom acted after being alerted by the Advertising Standards Authority to a series of ads on Venus TV that had breached the code between November 2006 to August 2007.
Venus TV is a free-to-air TV channel operated by Venus TV Limited. The channel is broadcast on Sky channel 807.
