Varun Dhawan on ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ controversy

Whilst ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ has enjoyed immense success passing the 100 crore mark, the film still finds itself under the spotlight regarding a comic molestation scene towards the hero, Varun Dhawan.  As the furore has grown Dhawan has spoken out about the scene.

The scene in question is supposedly an entertaining scene showing Dhawan molested by a group of men in Bangkok resulting in much laughter amongst his friends in the film.  However some cinegoers have taken offence at the portrayal of molestation on screen.

According to DNA India, Dhawan has said “Out of 10, if two don’t like something, that doesn’t count as mass opinion. People who felt that way are entitled to their opinion”.  Dhawan goes onto explain the scene was meant to be a representation of how the hero’s male ego is shattered.  “In 3 Idiots, there’s a scene where a character confuses a Hindi word for `balatkar’. People should have been offended by that as well”, he continued.

However Dhawan ended by apologising saying “We didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s sentiments and if we did so unknowingly, we apologise.”
