When Homi Adajania first announced plans of making a Bollywood cinematic adaptation of John Green’spopular novel ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, it was heard that the director wanted to cast Deepika Padukone and Varun Dhawan in lead roles. However, while Padukone is almost confirmed for the project, Dhawan’s name is no longer being speculated as he allegedly rejected the offer.

“Following the success of his last outing, ABCD 2, the makers decided to approach him (Dhawan), but things didn’t quite work out due to date issues. Varun was always the first choice for the role. Getting him on board with Deepika Padukone would have also satisfied our fresh pairing criteria. Now, since he has mentioned his unavailability, we are approaching other actors,۝ a source from the film’s unit informedMid Day.

However, while one source cited date issues as Dhawan’s reason for rejecting the project, another claimed that Dhawan is just being extra cautious with the scripts he green-signals.

As previously reported byBizAsia, Sushant Singh Rajput may now be seen in the role initially offered to Dhawan, although Singh Rajput has denied being approached for the same.

Meanwhile, Dhawan is currently focusing on Rohit Shetty’s ‘Dilwale’, brother Rohit Dhawan’s ‘Dishoom’ and mentor Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’.
