UTV Movies confirmed for Sky launch this month

UTV Movies India will be launching on Sky Digital channel 797 free-to-air on Monday 12th December, the broadcaster has confirmed.

As already reported exclusively on BizAsia.co.uk, Sky Media will handle ad sales for the channel. The deal between UTV and BSkyB was brokered by TVMedia3,

Sky Media operations director Richard Hawking said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to add UTV Movies India to our portfolio of channels; it adds a new dimension to our offering for advertisers and great content for a growing and important audience.”

Commenting on the expansion in UK, UTV CEO – Broadcasting MK Anand said, “With the launch of UTV Movies India in the UK we further expand our international footprint. The UK is a vital market for us as it has a large South Asian diaspora who are avid Bollywood movie lovers. We are proud to be associated with the UK’s largest media sales house – Sky Media, which comes with extensive media prowess in the region. We look forward to a successful entry into the region.”

UTV Movies India is also likely to use content from its recently launched Showbiz channel, UTV Stars. The channel will use the tagline ‘Jeeyo Bollywood’ (Live Bollywood).

UTV Movies India will showcase its library over 400 titles including ‘Delhi Belly’, ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Guzaarish’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ amongst a slew of other blockbusters.

UTV Movies India will be available free-to-air with all its output being available with English subtitles.
