Uncertainty surrounds future of Sahara One?

With the Sahara Group Chief, Subrata Roy under police arrest over non-refund to investors, the future of his entertainment channel, Sahara One looks bleak.

There are reports that the channel could be sold off or even axed completely after a turbulent time recently for the broadcaster.

A source told Mid-Day, There was a recent bid to sell off the channel. Talks were on with one or two parties, but nothing materialised. Then came the news of the Sahara chief۪s arrest and things came to a standstill.۝

Viewership has slumped despite some good actors being associated with the channel. ‘Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki’ ran between 2005 and 2011 and did extremely well for the channel but not the same could be said about other projects on the channel.

The source added, All the decision making is done from Lucknow, since the channel۪s top brass is based there. Over a year ago, Sahara۪s Mumbai office shut down its sprawling premises in Goregaon and moved to a smaller place at Link Road in Andheri (west). The staff has been hearing all sorts of rumours though there is no official word yet.۝

Sahara One, which was available in the UK for a number of years closed down last year. It was later replaced with ABP News on Sky Digital.
