Ummah FM wins licence in Reading

Media regulator Ofcom has announced the award of one new community radio licence.

Ummah FM will serve the Muslim community of Reading on 87.9FM 24-hours a day.

According to Ofcom’s note. “It will seek to promote the community’s general welfare by aiding it in accessing information and services offered by public and private institutions, and aims to enhance wider community cohesion through promoting discussion and debate. The service will be multilingual, but predominantly in English.”

The licence is awarded for a five-year period.

It is unclear whether the station is part of the same operation as Ummah Channel, which broadcasts on Sky Digital.
