UK TV Reach: Sony TV gets close to overtaking Star Plus at No.1
In the biggest test yet for Star Plus, the long-running market leader, faced stiff competition from Sony Entertainment Television in weekly reach data published by BARB for week ending Sunday 6th May 2018.
Star Plus recorded its lowest ever reach with 503,000 viewers, while Sony TV delivered a record reach of 417,000 viewers. These are the first official figures released since the Sky EPG changes took place, so whether this is a temporary blip for Star Plus remains to be seen. The others in the pecking order were Colors with 336,000 viewers, Hum TV with 288,000 viewers, Sony SAB TV with 270,000 viewers, ZEE TV with 262,000 viewers, Zing with 260,000 viewers, Geo TV with 220,000 viewers and Rishtey with 206,000 viewers.
The next tier consisted of &TV with 180,000 viewers, Hum Masala with 168,000 viewers, PTC Punjabi with 147,000 viewers, Star Bharat with 139,000 viewers, PTV Global with 121,000 viewers, Geo Kahani and Venus TV with 118,000 viewers, NTV Europe with 111,000 viewers, Akaal Channel with 86,000 viewers, ATN Bangla with 82,000 viewers, Prime TV with 72,000 viewers, Iqra TV with 57,000 viewers, Living Foodz with 46,000 viewers, ARY Family with 44,000 viewers, TV 99 with 25,000 viewers and Urdu1 Europe with 15,000 viewers.
Movie genre
ZEE Cinema topped the South Asian movie genre with a reach of 311,000 viewers, followed by Star Gold with 285,000 viewers, Rishtey Cineplex with 278,000 viewers, Sony MAX with 271,000 viewers and B4U Movies with 208,000 viewers.
Music genre
B4U Music remained the top South Asian music channel in the UK with a reach of 265,000 viewers, followed by BritAsia TV with 119,000 viewers, MTV Beats with 110,000 viewers and Sony Mix with 92,000 viewers.
News genre
New Vision TV led the South Asian news genre with a reach of 195,000 viewers, followed by Samaa TV with 187,000 viewers and Geo News with 172,000 viewers. The next tier consisted of Dunya News with 156,000 viewers, ABP News with 139,000 viewers, NDTV 24×7 with 125,000 viewers, Aaj Tak with 95,000 viewers, UK 44 with 92,000 viewers, 92 News with 91,000 viewers and News18 with 61,000 viewers.
