UK ratings: Star TV steams ahead; SAB TV lags
Star TV UK is celebrating this week after occupying the top two slots in the UK Asian TV ratings war, with its two channels Star Plus and Star Gold.
Star Plus, which remains the undisputed leader has crossed a weekly reach of 1.2 million viewers, the highest ever, according to official data from BARB for week ending Sunday 13th May.
Movies channel, Star Gold has jumped back to second with 696,000 – its the first time in months Star Gold has toppled rival UMP Movies as the UK’s most watched Bollywood film channel. UMP Movies slid to third with 658,000.
The repeats on the soon-to-close, Imagine Dil Se channel are proving a turn-off with viewers waning. The channel’s weekly reach has dropped to 643,000. Sunrise TV and Zing followed next.
Surprisingly, the free-to-air status of light-entertainment channel, SAB TV is taking a little time to pick-up. The channel is lagging behind with 120,000 despite ongoing promotions in the media. The broadcaster is expected to push the “free” message of the channel in weeks to come as it leaves VIEWASIA next week.
